What does a pregnancy massage feel like?

You lie on your side, propped up with pillows so your bump and back are fully supported. Slow, calm strokes over your lower back, hips and legs, the places that ache most as your bump grows. An hour where the only thing you need to do is lie still.

Who is pregnancy massage for?

  • Lower back and hip ache as your bump grows
  • Tired, heavy legs at the end of the day
  • Trouble getting comfortable or switching off
  • A gift from a partner, friend or family

What happens during your pregnancy massage

  • A short chat first. What hurts, any injuries or health conditions, and how firm you like the pressure.
  • Time to get ready alone. Undress to the level you are comfortable with and lie under a towel.
  • Your treatment. Only the area being worked on is uncovered. Ask for lighter or firmer pressure at any point.
  • A few quiet minutes after. Water, time to come round, and simple aftercare tips.

Yes. Pregnancy massage, prenatal massage and maternity massage are different names for the same thing: massage adapted for mums to be.

What does the NHS say about massage for back pain in pregnancy?

The NHS lists "have a massage or a warm bath" among its tips for easing back pain in pregnancy. It also says to contact your GP or midwife urgently if you have back pain in your second or third trimester, as this could be a sign of early labour. Source: NHS: Back pain in pregnancy

Can I book if I have a health condition or take medicine?
